Morton High protesters can return to class

The case of the Berwyn, Illinois high school students who were suspended and threatened with expulsion for a peaceful anti-Iraq war protest, has occasioned a brilliant blogpost from Arthur Silber.

Nine months ago this coming Tuesday, Timothy Canty, the principal of Wilton High School in my home town of Wilton, Connecticut, rescinded permission for the school’s Theater Arts II class to perform “Voices In Conflict”, a staged recitation of letters from soldiers and participants in the Iraq War.

About 10 Morton West High School students suspended over an anti-war protest at the school last week returned to the Berwyn school today to demand they be allowed back in classes.
