Since we’re in an Offenbach mood … not likely that Marilyn Horne ever sang Nicklausse on the stage, but since this may be my favorite number in my favorite opera, I’m glad we have this …


… the Barcarolle from Jacques Offenbach’s Tales Of Hoffman, with Horne and Joan Sutherland.

Plácido Domingo sings the ballad of Kleinzach from the prologue. This is the 1970s Met production, so it was almost certainly James Levine conducting.
