“Ashtray Heart”, unpaid-for June 30, 2006

Yesterday, a video of a 1980s performance on Saturday Night Live of “Ashtray Heart” by Captain Beefheart was taken down from YouTube, and thus disappeared from my site.

SNL has a reputation for complaining whenever anything from their show is posted online, and after all they probably have the legal right to do so. But I’ve also heard complaints that YouTube will occasionally pull videos that shouldn’t be pulled.

Anyway, I’m amused to think what the Captain must think of this, given this quote:

And in that spirit, here is the music track of that same performance of “Ashtray Heart“, free and clear from the Captain’s website.
